BOTOX ISN’T JUST FOR FACES

About 20 years ago, researchers began to use Botox for quadriplegics who had spastic bladders. The Botox injection proved to be so effective, they next tried it out for people with overactive bladder. The results were life changing.

Dr. Christi has used Botox to improve women’s lives for over 9 years, refining the technique to make it very easy on her patients.

BLADDER BOTOX FAQs

Overactive bladder happens when the bladder is hyperactive, and the muscles in the bladder wall develop a spastic condition.

Often, this occurs in neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis or stroke, but for most women the cause is unknown. It is more common after menopause, so there is likely a hormonal component.

Overactive does cause urine leakage—but also may not.  Overactive Bladder can be “wet” or “dry,” and Botox can help both conditions.

With dry OAB, you frequently have the “gotta go” feeling and make too many trips to the bathroom. Those who suffer from wet OAB often cannot make it to the bathroom in time.

There are possible side effects to bladder Botox, which may include:

  • Urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Pain and/or difficult urination
  • Inability to empty the bladder

These possible side effects are rare and temporary.
