How Hematuria (Blood in Urine) Evaluation Works

During your appointment, Dr. Christi looks at imaging of the kidneys with either a CT scan or a renal ultrasound.

Next, an abdominal x-ray of the kidneys, ureters and bladder (KUB) is performed, as well as a kidney ultrasound or CT scan. The final part of the evaluation is a scope of the bladder, called a cystoscopy.

A follow-up consultation will provide treatment options, depending on your testing results.

If a urinary tract infection causes the Hematuria, antibiotics may be prescribed. If Dr. Christi finds a kidney stone, laser therapy or shock wave therapy may be recommended. If the issue requires surgery, you options will be discussed in full.
