Robotic Oophorectomy: What you need to know

At LifeSculpt by ChristiMD, we’re always focused on your total wellness, and sometimes that means addressing more complex procedures to support long-term health. This month, I want to share some important information about robotic oophorectomy, a procedure I recommend for many of my patients who have already gone through menopause.

What is a Robotic Oophorectomy?

A robotic oophorectomy is a minimally invasive procedure in which the ovaries are removed using advanced robotic technology. While I don’t personally perform this procedure, I often recommend it to patients when I’m performing a robotic bladder lift. If you’re already in menopause, I suggest removing the ovaries at the same time for long-term peace of mind and health benefits.

Why Remove the Ovaries After Menopause?

After menopause, your ovaries produce almost negligible amounts of hormones. For many women, these small amounts of hormones aren’t missed and don’t contribute significantly to hormonal balance. However, removing the ovaries during a bladder lift or another pelvic surgery can be highly beneficial for a few key reasons:

  1. Reduced Risk of Ovarian Cancer: Ovarian cancer is one of the hardest cancers to detect early, and the risk increases with age. By removing the ovaries, you’re reducing the risk of this cancer significantly.
  2. No Impact on Hormonal Health: Since the ovaries are no longer producing hormones after menopause, their removal doesn’t affect your hormonal balance. This can simplify your health strategy moving forward and allow you to focus on other wellness goals without worrying about ovarian health.

Why I Recommend This to My Patients

I believe in a proactive approach to women’s health, especially when it comes to minimizing risks associated with aging. If you’re already undergoing a pelvic procedure, such as a bladder lift, removing the ovaries at the same time can save you the stress of another surgery down the road. It’s a straightforward step that can significantly improve long-term peace of mind.

As always, I’m here to guide you through every decision with care and expertise. If you’re interested in learning more about whether a robotic oophorectomy might be right for you, feel free to reach out, and let’s discuss your health and options further.

To your health and well-being,
